Just started DSLR photography? Here is a detailed review of Canon T6i

Canon T6i is a remarkable DSLR camera that delivers superb images. Unlike the predecessor (T5i), it comes with stunning layout interface and is backed up by a solid performance. If you’re new to digital photography, here is a detailed review of Canon T6i camera.

Design

One of the biggest achievements of this model is the compact and sturdy design. The outside cover is made of polycarbonate resin and an aluminum alloy which is pretty durable for an entry-level DSLR camera. Even better, there are textured coatings on the hand grip which makes the camera feel comfortable.

On the top deck, you’ll find a monochrome LCD which gives a quick glance at your settings. There are three control buttons which help you to adjust ISO and active focus area. Compared to T5i, the exterior measurements are identical – 4 by 5.2 by 3.1 inches height, width, and diameter respectively. To turn the control dial on the top plate, you simply hold the button on the rear of the camera. And when you press the shutter button, T6i will automatically deal with the dim light – this is a definite plus.

Image quality

One of the notable upgrades from the T5i is the image sensor. It uses APS-C sized image sensor and has an image resolution of 24.2 pixels. While this isn’t as large as you’d find in more advanced DSLR cameras, the image is better than older Canon cameras. Note: you’re limited to 4K resolution and HD video quality. To suit your preference, T6i comes with two kit lens options: EF-S 18-135mm and EF-S 18-55mm. The difference between the two is the focal range. If your budget allows, it makes more sense to go for a longer lens.

Performance

Canon T6i excels in the performance department. As with most DSLR cameras, this model offers a speed of 5 frames per second when in burst mode. It’s worth mentioning that it performs faster in Viewfinder than in live view mode. For optimal performance, you may want to work with the camera when on viewfinder mode. On the other hand, the autofocus speed is brilliant. The T6i comes with 19 autofocus points which is much better compared to the predecessor (9AF).

Connectivity and storage

The T6i features built-in wireless connectivity that helps you transfer your photos and videos to compatible devices. With this smart technology, you can control the camera with your smartphone. A file transfer remote control App is provided which allows you to control the camera settings, view LCD screen, and release the shutter. Alternatively, you can connect the camera with other devices via USB 2.0 or HDMI port.

Video

The camera can record videos at the highest resolution of 1920 x 1080 and save in MPEG formats. More interestingly, this model has a port for the external microphone if you want to record high-quality sound.

Pros

• Smooth video autofocus

• Gives up to 5 fps of continuous shooting

• Equipped with sharp and colorful LCD

• Comes in a lightweight design

• Fits the hands well

Cons

• The battery life is below average compared to other DSLRs

Final thoughts

Canon T6i uses brilliant technology which makes capturing photos and videos a breeze. It features an advanced EOS Scene Analysis system that adjusts the camera settings, especially in those tricky situations. Not to mention, it comes with a high-resolution 24.2-megapixel camera to help you capture natural-looking photographs. And with the wireless connectivity, you get a seamless way of sharing photos and images. If you’re looking for a camera that comes at a pocket-friendly price without compromising on quality, T6i should be your best bet.
